AO Spine Principles Level Specimen Course - Decompression and Instrumentation of the Spine

Welcome to this 2-day hands-on specimen principles course. The focus of the course will be on the basic instrumentation and decompression techniques of the cervical, thoracic, and lumbar Spine.
*3 participants will be working together on one workstation*


Cadaveric hands-on exericise

Workshop A: Lumbar pedicle screws 

Workshop B: Thoracic pedicle screws 

Workshop C: Percutaneous thoracolumbar pedicle screws 

Workshop D: Lumbar decompression / discectomy

Workshop E: Lateral Mass and C7/T1 pedicle screws

Workshop F: C1-2 screws and occipital plate

Workshop G: Thoracic/cervical decompression 

Workshop H: ACDF

Learning objectives

At the end of this course, participants will be able to:

  • Insert pedicle screws in the thoracic and lumbar spine, open and percutaneous technique.
  • Insert lateral mass screws, cervical spine.
  • Insert C1-C2 screws, cervical spine.
  • Posterior decompression of the cervical, thoracic and lumbar spine.
  • Anterior decompression and fusion of the cervical spine.

European CME accreditation 

An application has been made to the UEMS-EACCME® in Brussels for European CME credits (ECMEC).


Registration Fee  

Spine Member: EUR 1,215.

Non member: EUR 1,350.

Included in the registration fee are course materials, coffee- and lunch breaks, a course dinner and course certificate. 

The course dinner will take place at Stadscafe van der Werff on June 26th.

Cancellation policy: 50% until 30 days before the event. No refund thereafter.

The AO reserves the right to cancel events wholly or in part in case of an insufficient number of participants, program cancellations, organizational reasons, changes of availability of speakers, force majeure or other unforeseeable events that render the execution of the event impossible and/or not worthwhile or that would lead to the AO incurring unreasonable expenses in executing the event. The AO shall immediately inform participants of such changes.


Should an event be cancelled by the AO for organizational reasons or as a result of force majeure, as outlined above, the AO will refund the event fee in full. Claims for further liabilities or damages are excluded. Participants may not assert any further claims and any such claims shall be excluded. This also applies to compensation claims for travel and accommodation costs and lost working hours.


Recommendation and travel tips:

Consider booking flexible or refundable flights in case of a course cancellation or date change;

If you book hotel rooms, be sure that they are basically refundable. Rooms booked any other way may result in fees or penalties should the course cancel or have a date change.
